Get a free phone from your next mobile carrier! Sounds too good to be true, right? But it’s legitimate.

One way that major mobile providers like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile woo you to their plans is by offering free or discounted phones to customers who switch to them from another carrier. Sometimes existing customers can qualify for a new phone by opening a new line.

It might surprise you that the phones are indeed free if you follow through with the terms of your agreement — which almost always requires you to purchase the device on an 18-, 24- or 30-month installment plan so that you stick around. Your discount comes to you in the form of monthly billing credits.

If you cancel your line before the installment period ends, the remaining balance of that device will become immediately due. Other than that, as long as you stick with your new carrier and keep your line of service active, they’ll make your payments for you.

Deal No. 1: AT&T, Free iPhone 8

While the iPhone 8 isn’t Apple’s latest device, it’s still an excellent phone. It comes with a 4.7-inch display, an A11 Bionic chip to ensure that you can quickly switch between apps with ease, Touch ID, water-resistance, 12 MP rear camera capable of recording in HD, and so much more. Even though it doesn’t sport the ultra-modern edge-to-edge display like newer models, it still shares the same glass and aluminum body as the iPhone 11.

How this deal works: You must buy the device on a 30-month installment plan with AT&T or add a line to your existing AT&T account. You’ll also need to activate your new line on a postpaid unlimited plan. Once that’s done, the phone’s yours!

Deal No. 2: Verizon, Free Samsung Galaxy S10

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is one of Samsung’s best devices in its flagship lineup, and it has the specs to prove it. The Galaxy S10 comes with a 6.1-inch HD Super AMOLED edge-to-edge display, 16 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP rear cameras, 10 MP selfie camera, an all-day (and then some) battery, a huge built-in memory that’s expandable up to 512 GB, and it’s loaded with tons of cool features.

How this deal works: Switch to Verizon from another carrier. You will get an initial $ 200 billing credit for buying the device on an installment plan, up to $ 500 in trade-in credits, and a $ 200 prepaid Mastercard for signing up for a Verizon unlimited plan. When you meet that criteria, your Galaxy S10 is free.

Deal No. 3: Sprint, Free iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 is Apple’s newest device, and it’s packed with all the latest features available. It sports a 6.1-inch Retina display, an A13 Bionic chip to ensure that it stays lightning-fast, dual 12 MP rear cameras, face ID, a 2-meter water resistance rating and so much more.

How the deal works: Switch to Sprint from another carrier, sign up for an 18-month lease and trade in an eligible phone in any condition. When your 18-month lease is up, you can pay it off and keep it, send it back or trade it in for a newer phone!

Deal No. 4: T-Mobile, Free Motorola G7 Power

Motorola made the very first handheld mobile phone in 1973, and even though they’re not the most popular smartphone brand anymore, they’re still making incredibly high-quality devices. Motorola’s Moto G7 Power comes with an (unheard of) 72-hour usage time, 26.5 days of standby time, 12 MP rear camera, 8 MP selfie camera, a fingerprint reader and so much more. Who needs wireless charging when you rarely have to charge your phone?

How this deal works: Switch to T-Mobile from another carrier and sign up for a 24-month installment agreement or open a new line of service with T-Mobile. You will also need to sign up for a T-Mobile Essentials or Magenta plan. After that, it’s yours to keep.

Deal No. 5: AT&T, Free iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 comes with an A10 Fusion Chip, which means it can keep up with all your apps and gaming needs. It’s also water-resistant, offers Touch ID, an all-day battery, 12 MP rear camera, 7 MP selfie camera with HD video recording capabilities, and a 4.7-inch Retina display. With all of these features, it’s hard to imagine it was released four years ago.

How this deal works: Sign on to a 30-month installment agreement, adding a line on a new or existing AT&T account, and signing up for a postpaid unlimited plan. For active-duty military, veterans and first responders and their families you can get this phone on plans that start at $ 48.75 per month. For others, there’s a free phone offered on a $ 65 per month plan.

This deal (and all the others) will only run for a limited time, so get your free phone before these deals end!
