Free gym membership for seniors — ongoing
Did you resolve to get in shape in the new year? If you’re age 65 or older, you may be entitled to a free gym membership.
Some Medicare plan perks include the SilverSneakers health and fitness program, which gives eligible seniors access to over 16,000 gym and fitness center locations across the U.S., as we detail in “13 Things Retirees Can Get for Free — or Almost Free.”
Free gift card at Sam’s Club — through January
If you’ve thought about joining a retail warehouse club but never wanted to shell out the membership fee, 2021 is your year! New Sam’s Club customers who purchase a one-year membership online for $ 45 will receive $ 45 in store credit, or what the retailer calls an “Instant Savings” deal.
That means membership for the entire year is essentially free (barring any taxes). Learn more.
Free national park entry — Jan. 18
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all National Park Service sites will waive entrance fees on Jan. 18, the day on which the holiday falls this year.
If you would like to pay tribute by exploring a park that is connected to the legacy of the celebrated civil rights leader, you can visit one of the following:
- The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C.
- The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail in Alabama
- The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Georgia
For more on free days at the national parks, check out “National Parks to Offer 6 Days of Free Admission in 2021.”
Free shipping at Walmart — ongoing
Walmart often offers lower prices than its competitors, but the retail giant has taken the savings a step further by waiving its minimum shipping fee for members.
That means they now enjoy next-day and two-day shipping at no added cost, even on super-small shipments. The only caveat? Grocery deliveries must still meet the $ 35 free shipping threshold.

Free Red Cross test for coronavirus antibodies — ongoing
Want to find out if you’ve been exposed to the coronavirus — and aid your community? Simply donate blood, platelets or plasma to those in need at your local Red Cross.
The organization will test the blood “for the presence of coronavirus antibodies, which form when the body fights infections such as COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.”
Expect your results approximately seven to 10 days after donation. For more, read “A Free Way to Discover If You’ve Had COVID-19.”
Free kids crafts (and coupon) at JCPenney — Jan. 9
Stop by your local JCPenney store between 11 a.m. and noon to grab a complimentary decorative door hanger kit for kids and a 10% off coupon for adults. It’s a great way to entertain your children in the comfort and safety of your home.
Bonus: The extra-savings coupon can be combined “with any other JCPenney coupon.” See details.
