Welcome to our “Work From Home Q&A” series. You ask a question about remote work, and a guest expert answers it. You can learn how to ask a question of your own below.

This week’s question comes from Joe:

“I’m now starting to search for remote jobs. Was wondering which online positions are in demand during the pandemic?”

Remote job openings have jumped at least 25% in some fields

The good news is that, according to the job listing data at FlexJobs, the remote job market has steadily grown during the pandemic. There was a 10% increase in remote job listings in June over May, and a 7% increase in May over April.

Some of the most common remote jobs right now are in areas like customer service, sales, software development, education and training, accounting and finance, customer service, account management, project management, and medical and health.

In looking at which fields have grown substantially during the pandemic, we found that these fields all had at least a 25% increase in remote job listings since March:

  • Therapy and mental health
  • Banking
  • Gaming
  • Mortgage and real estate
  • Systems and database administration
  • Call centers
  • K-12 education and online teaching
  • Translation
  • Accounting and finance

To land a remote job, you’ll first want to decide which job or jobs you’re most interested in and suited to do. Think about the types of skills and experiences you’ve had in your career to this point, and how they might translate into a similar job, or maybe something different.
