The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) announced today (July 3) that cinemas can soon reopen in Singapore from July 13.
Cinema operators like Cathay and Golden Village (GV) will be reopening on July 13, while indie cinema operator The Projector will reopen on July 15.
As part of the COVID-19 safety regulations, cinemas have been forced to close since March 27.
When they reopen, cinemas would have to observe safety precautions, such as temperature-taking and a 1-metre social distancing seat configuration.
The seat distancing rule is an exception for up to five movie patrons. This means couples, or friends in groups of up to five people, can sit together.
In total, each cinema hall will be limited to a maximum of 50 patrons.
To add on, wearing of masks will be made mandatory at all times, except when consuming food and drink.
Among the films to usher in the reopening is the second instalment of one of the highest-grossing South Korean films in Singapore: zombie thriller ‘Train To Busan: Peninsula’.
Other upcoming movie titles that are highly anticipated include ‘Tenet’ by Christoper Nolan and ‘A Quiet Place 2’.
