A new digital office (SG Digital Office) announced on Sunday (May 31) will recruit 1,000 ambassadors by the end of June to help stallholders and seniors go online, embrace digital tools and increase their digital literacy and knowledge.
The digital ambassadors will cover all 112 hawker centres and wet markets in June to encourage stallholders to adopt SGQR codes for e-payments.
The government recognises that in the wake of COVID-19, digitalisation is now both an imperative and an opportunity. Digitalisation can significantly improve the lives and livelihoods of people, according to a press release by Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA).
What Does A Digital Ambassador Do:
According to the job ads posted, digital ambassadors will be paid from S$ 1,800 to S$ 2,100, depending on the applicant’s qualifications, and will be hired on a contract basis.
Digital ambassadors will work in shifts, five days a week, including weekends and public holidays. Only Singaporeans are eligible to apply.
They will play a critical role in providing frontline, personalised one-to-one as well as small group support to seniors and stallholders who require additional assistance to adopt digital solutions and technology.
What Does The Job Entail:
Responsibilities
- Engage seniors to equip them with basic digital skills through 1:1 engagement, or small group settings.
- Engage stallholders in hawkers, wet markets and coffee shops to sign up for e-payment solution at their stalls.
- Ensure accurate and prompt follow through of administration work linked to each engagement.
- Follow up actions, where applicable for various engagement(s).
Requirements
- Passionate about contributing to and supporting our seniors & citizens.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable with 1:1 and small group engagements.
- Patient in guiding the seniors/hawkers through a step-by-step learning journey.
- Work may span to include after office hours or weekends, when required.
- Experience in social services, community engagement, customer service and the ability to speak various dialect(s) would be an advantage.
To enable this, SDO will provide the necessary training and support.
SDO will prioritise the recruitment of Digital Ambassadors from the graduating cohorts of Institutes of Higher Learning in Singapore.
The outreach will be ramped up further from July 2020, to include coffee shops and industrial canteens. The goal is to engage 18,000 stallholders to help them get onboard the unified e-payment solution by June 2021, added IMDA.
These vacancies are part of the efforts from the government to create new jobs to help affected individuals tide through the pandemic.
