Food delivery firm foodpanda announced today (4 September) that it has launched a 24/7 on-demand delivery service.
Called pandago, the new delivery service is targeted at businesses like small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Pandago is open for any business to use, regardless of whether they are listed on the foodpanda platform.
On pandago, businesses pay on a per-use basis, and there is no onboarding or transaction fees.
They would first need to sign up for an account on pandago.sg in order to book riders.
Through the platform, businesses can make use of the real-time tracking features to keep track of the delivery and keep their customers updated on the parcel status.
The base fare for delivery fees start at $ 6, with additional fees calculated by the distance travelled.
Commission Fees Match Demand For 24/7 Products
Singapore’s food delivery space is expected to swell to S$ 164 million by 2020 — this is a 27.9 per cent increase from 2017.
With Singapore’s penchant for 24-hour businesses and a bustling nightlife, it’s not surprising that foodpanda has chosen to launch a 24/7 delivery platform.
However, the base price for the 24/7 on-demand service is substantially higher than what foodpanda charges on its main platform.
On foodpanda, a minimum delivery order of S$ 12 is required, with a S$ 0.99 to S$ 2.99 delivery charge calculated based on the distance travelled.
Pandago applies a $ 6 commission fee, with additional delivery charges based off distance. That’s a substantial, but understandable amount given that the service is 24 hours and available on-the-go.
If the fees are pocketed by the delivery riders themselves, it would be a fair compensation.
Time-sensitive businesses, and companies that sell medical or specialty products may benefit from this service.
