National Day is just around the corner. To celebrate this, Netflix has just announced a lineup of more than 100 local TV shows and movies.
Spend the long National Day weekend bingeing on Singapore-made films like the critically acclaimed Ilo Ilo, I Not Stupid and Money No Enough.
Fans of The Noose and Phua Chu Kang will be delighted to know that these classic series will also be launched progressively on Netflix from August 1 to enjoy on National Day and beyond.
This is in addition to existing Singaporean titles on Netflix such as Ah Boys to Men, Revenge of the Pontianak, as well as various Mediacorp dramas. The Little Nonya was also released on Netflix recently to much fanfare.
The list of films and TV shows was announced through a post on Netflix’s Facebook page today.
In order for subscribers to find the films and series easily, Netflix will also house all Singaporean-produced works under a special “Singapore, Now Streaming” category.
The release of these locally made classics is made possible through partnerships with local studios Clover Films, Mediacorp, MM2 Entertainment and Memento Films.
“As a Singaporean growing up with a lot of these classic shows and films myself, I am incredibly excited to enrich the Netflix catalog with these best-in-class Singaporean stories that are made in Singapore, by Singaporeans, for Singaporeans, to celebrate this National Day,” said Raphael Phang, content acquisition manager for Southeast Asia at Netflix.
Even though the annual National Day Parade will be scaled down to just 150 spectators due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Singaporean Netflix subscribers can still indulge in patriotism throughout August.
