As expectation fuels while we edge nearer to the next General Election which must be held by April 2021, business honchos including entrepreneurs and high-flying corporate executives have recently been spotted rubbing shoulders with Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP).
This got people wondering if these individuals from the private sector could actually be potential election candidates.
One possible contender who caught attention is Timbre Group’s co-founder Edward Chia. He was seen with MP Liang Eng Hwa in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC after Mr Liang’s Meet-the-People Session on Monday night (March 30).
Meet The Man Behind Timbre Group
The 32-year-old entrepreneur co-founded the Timbre Group with the social mission of developing the Singapore music scene through the talent cultivation of local musicians, and growing sustainable audiences for them.
Today, the group has evolved into a holistic music lifestyle company with a diversified yet synergistic portfolio of businesses, ranging from food and beverage, to concert and festival promotion, as well as music education.
He is also the man who tried to engineer social change and get Singaporeans to return their trays after their meals. He first implemented this idea at Timbre+ located at JTC LaunchPad @ one-north.
Diners had to pay $ 1 for a tray, which is returned automatically when they take the radio-chipped trays to the washing point. This turned out to be a success as he saw 95% of the diners return their trays, when it was estimated that on a national level, only 20% return their trays.
With the opening of Timbre+ in 2016 and Yishun Park Hawker Centre in 2017, the NUS graduate in Economics and Political Science currently heads a portfolio of four live music restaurant-bars and dining concepts, two socially-driven F&B concepts, an artist management agency, and a music academy.
He also co-chairs with Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Sim Ann, the SG Youth Action Plan panel which gets youth to shape their vision for the country.
Edward is also part of the 30-member Committee on the Future Economy (CFE), formed in 2016 to develop economic strategies for the country.
With a demonstrated history in heading businesses, social entrepreneurial spirit and passion in social work, he is a prospective candidate to serve in Singapore’s ruling party.
Besides Edward, there are a few other promising entrepreneurs and corporate executives who have been spotted alongside Ministers and MPs during Meet-the-People sessions in their respective wards.
The PAP has not confirmed if and where these potential candidates would be deployed, but we are keeping our eyes peeled for any further movement in constituencies.
